Can someone please just cast Shay Mitchell in the Baywatch movie already? And if they need one good reason why — you know, aside from her colorful personality and legions of fans — they don’t have to look any further than her latest magazine cover. Rocking a red one-piece swimsuit that shows off her toned physique, the 29-year-old Pretty Little Liars actress can be seen gracing Cosmopolitan‘s June 2016 cover and looking hotter than ever.
That being said, while this stunning photo certainly solidifies her status as one of Hollywood’s sexiest leading ladies, it’s the interview portion that truly deserves the most attention. In it, the PLL star bares more than just her beach bod; she bares her soul.
When asked, once again, about her sexuality (apparently playing a lesbian on a popular TV show makes it okay for strangers to inquire about your real-life relationships), her response was nothing sort of praiseworthy. “When I started, people were like, ‘What are you?’ I’m like, right now I’m dating a guy,” she replied. “I don’t know what it’s going to be in three years. You love who you love: black, white, polka-dot. That’s what my dad always said. I’m never going to label myself. I could be 50 and dating a woman and then what? I said I was straight and now I’m not?”
And that’s not all: Shay also shed some insight on perseverance, the tough road to stardom, and the not so glamorous side to the industry. “I have so much respect for waiters, waitresses, girls who work in clubs. It’s tough,” she explained, sharing intimate details from her own experiences. “I’d have old guys saying ‘You’re so pretty. Why are you working?’ or ‘Come live with me, honey.’ Like, what, so I can be taken care of? That’s the last thing that I want. What I wanted to say was, ‘[I work] so I will never end up with someone like you.'”
Damn, girl. Preach!
As for whether she has her heart set on collecting various accolades and honors for her on-screen roles, just know this: Shay is not about that life. “I’d rather have a company,” she confessed. “I don’t want to be dependent on a call from my agent—taking projects I’m not OK with because I need to. To be honest, winning an Oscar is not one of my goals.”
Wow, talk about being a smart, capable, and gracious young woman. Just when we thought we couldn’t be any more proud of her than we already are, she finds a way to impress us yet again with her charm and wisdom.
