In other bittersweet news, Pretty Little Liars has officially wrapped filming – for good.
Surreal, isn’t it? While there are still ten episodes left to go in season 7 – as well as a tell-all special that will air immediately following the series finale — fans can’t help but mourn the end of the era. And if their nostalgic notes and tear-inducing photos are anything to go by, the cast and crew of the hit Freeform show are having a tough time saying goodbye to the crazy world of Rosewood, too.
Take Shay Mitchell, for example: The talented actress, who portrays Emily Fields, is the latest PLL star to take to social media to share her honest thoughts about closing such an important chapter in her life. However, instead of penning a letter and posting it to Instagram, Shay decided to add an extra layer of vulnerability to her farewell – namely, by reading her heartfelt words aloud and uploading the beautiful homage (which features her weeping so hard she loses faux eyelashes in the process) to her official YouTube channel.
“The Pretty Little Liars series finale has officially wrapped forever. Please excuse my crying because this was a very emotional moment for me,” Shay captioned the emotional video. “I wanted to be able to share this moment with all of you, who have helped me get to where I am today. I am so thankful for all of the support that you guys have given me the past 7 years, and I am excited to continue this journey with all of you.”

Is it a tad dramatic to shed tears over a show? Perhaps to a casual observer it might seem that way, but we’re far too invested in this show and its colorful characters to not feel like we’re losing friends in the process. Basically, Shay’s tears are our tears and her sentiments about PLL ending are deeply relatable. Many thanks to her for taking the time to post such a lovely tribute and connect with viewers worldwide on such a poignant level.
“I’d like to think that somewhere in an alternate Rosewood universe, that these five women will always remain a constant in each others’ lives, just as I hope we all do in our own reality.” We don’t know about you, but our hearts hurt so much right about now.
